Bob Dylan remains in an undisclosed hospital, where he is being treated for histoplasmosis, a fungal infection that creates a swelling of the sac surrounding the heart.

Dylan, 56, was admitted last weekend. A spokesman for the singer’s record label, Columbia, said Thursday that his condition is “not immediately life-threatening.”

Wire services quoted an unnamed source close to Dylan’s family as saying that the legendary singer-songwriter is not in a New York hospital, as had been initially reported. Dylan’s primary residence is Los Angeles.

Word of his illness was divulged Wednesday by a concert promoter in Europe, where Dylan canceled a tour that was scheduled to begin this weekend.
