Kile Sad May Is on Its Way

Darryl Kile finished off his impressive May with another win, and the Houston Astros sent the San Diego Padres to their fifth consecutive loss, 10-6 Thursday night.

Kile (6-2) went 5-0 with a 1.20 earned-run average in May.

He struck out nine in seven innings, giving up five runs and eight hits.

Kile helped himself with a two-run double during a six-run fourth inning.

Jeff Bagwell drove in two runs and Luis Gonzalez had three hits as Houston ended a three-game losing streak.

Greg Vaughn hit a run-scoring single for the Padres in the ninth, but Craig Shipley grounded out with the bases loaded to end the game.

Fernando Valenzuela (2-7) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks. He also made a throwing error.
