Three County Teams to Battle for Titles
Three Orange County teams will try to win Southern Section boys’ volleyball championships today at Cypress College.
Fourth-seeded Esperanza (18-1) will play second-seeded Simi Valley Royal (20-0) in the 7 p.m. Division I title match. Santa Margarita and Corona del Mar will also battle for section titles.
In the Division II final at 4 p.m., top-seeded Santa Margarita (18-2) appears in its first final against Santa Barbara (14-7), which won the 4-A title in 1992. Santa Margarita’s only losses this season came against Division I teams Los Angeles Loyola and Edison.
Corona del Mar, which hasn’t appeared in a final since it won the Division 4-A title in 1989, will meet two-time defending Division III champion Santa Ynez (18-1) in the division final at 1:30 p.m. Unseeded Corona del Mar (14-7) upset top-seeded Laguna Beach and fourth-seeded Calvary Chapel to reach the final.
