Hey, Washington--Start Paying Attention to the Workers

I am writing in response to the May 18 Life & Style article “Texas Observer No More” by Josh Getlin.

For some time, I have felt disenfranchised from the two major political parties because they won’t do anything about corporate greed and what it is doing to the hopes and dreams of working people.

People like to talk about how fantastic the economy is, but I don’t see it in my own life. It’s great for the rich, but the rest of us are still dealing with issues like downsizings, flat wages and the feeling that we’ll never have a real future at the rate we’re going.

This is why I was so happy to hear about the Alliance for Democracy and one of its founders, Ronnie Dugger. For a long time, I wondered if I was the only one with such anger at corporations, and now I know I am not alone. I would hope that the alliance would reconsider its decision not to form a new political party. Working people really need a party that will speak for them, and not a party that just spends all its time attacking government. It’s time for corporations to realize their free ride at our expense is over, and maybe a new political party could do the trick.
