Transplanted Californians and State Visitors

* Re “This Land Is My Land (Not Yours),” by Peter H. King, June 4:

Apparently, some Washingtonians, Oregonians and Coloradans have developed only a selective hatred for California. It seems to be temporarily suspended during the months of December-April, which incidentally coincides with the normally nasty weather conditions in those states.

We see a preponderance of cars bearing their license plates filling our parking lots and roadways here in the Coachella Valley. This occurs during that time period when they choose to temporarily adopt our “Golden State” paradise as their home away from home. We permanent residents, however, do not deplore their presence, rather we welcome it. Their dollars make our cash registers ring and our business owners sing.

One exception to the bashing rule seems to be the Canadians. They are always glad to see Californians, as we are to see them when they select our home area and make it theirs.

* Why not send all the transplanted out-of-state foreigners back to where they came from and leave California for the Californians. We could knock down all the condos and apartments and have our wide open spaces again! Then all the transplanted Californians could come back where they belong.

* King laments that it is difficult for him to comprehend why they left in the first place. They leave because of the flood of foreigners streaming across the borders, increasing crime and the welfare rolls. They leave because we have one of the highest tax rates in the nation to pay for it. They leave because we have the worst government money can buy at every level, passing laws that drive businesses and jobs out of the state in record numbers.

These are reasons enough, Mr. King, aside from the recession, riot and earthquake problems you mention.
