Mall Modifications Go Before Council

The City Council tonight will decide whether the New Saigon Mall on Bolsa Avenue can keep the Buddha statues, awnings and signs that were added to the building without city approval.

The mall opened Jan. 31 in a converted warehouse at 9221 Bolsa Ave.

At tonight’s public hearing, developer Frank Jao will ask the council to approve the modifications that were not part of the original plan, such as two 16-foot Buddha statues, red awnings and outdoor benches and tables, said city Planing Director Brian Fisk.

Jao also will seek permission to add more signs, landscaping, and 12 outdoor retail booths at “Cultural Court,” which includes the nearby 99 Market.
