From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Jesse K. Timmendequas, the man who killed 7-year-old Megan Kanka, was sexually abused as a child by his father and is now a pedophile unable to control himself, his lawyer told the jury that will decide whether to sentence Timmendequas to death or life in prison. In pleading for his client’s life, attorney Roy B. Greenman said Timmendequas’ father began sexually abusing his son at age 7 or 8. Prosecutor Lewis Korngut reminded jurors how the twice-convicted child molester watched Megan--whose murder inspired laws requiring notification when a convicted sex offender moves into an area--for weeks before raping and killing her in July 1994.
