ANGELS’ JASON DICKSON (8-2, 3.27 ERA) vs. GIANTS’ WILLIAM VANLANDINGHAM (3-4, 4.38 ERA)

Anaheim Stadium, 1 p.m.

TV--Channel 9. Radio--KTZN (710).

* Update--Where would the Angels be without Dickson, the right-hander who is the American League’s leading Rookie of the Year candidate? Not in contention, that’s for sure. Dickson has won his last three starts, giving up only four earned runs and walking three in a combined 18 innings. VanLandingham showed how good--and bad--he can be, all in the same start last Tuesday, throwing a no-hitter against Florida for 6 1/3 innings but walking seven. The Marlins won, 9-0, behind Kevin Brown’s no-hitter. One reason San Francisco has been in first place for the past 35 days is the play of second baseman Jeff Kent, who hit his team-leading 13th and 14th homers Saturday and has three grand slams.
