Man-Made Wetlands Are Irresponsible

Re: “Wetlands Sprout in Former Cotton Fields,” June 16.
Only God can create wetlands, and attempts by man to do so have met with many failures. The only logical way to protect nature is to abandon irresponsible farming practices like excess pumping of water from areas that once sustained wildlife, and use of millions of pounds of toxic chemicals that accumulate in the environment and kill thousands of birds and other species each year.
The kings and wizards of California’s agriculture industry have created an environmental catastrophe, and building a bird farm on contaminated soil, using reclaimed (in other words, tainted) water, does not bode well for wildlife, or mitigate the damage that has been, and continues to be, done.
Instead of wasting time and money on elaborate barbecues that could bias Fish and Game officials, J.G. Boswell should be working on meaningful ways to save the wildlife he and fellow growers are wiping out.
