What should we do with the $30 million?

County officials began that debate almost from the moment that Dist Atty. Michael R. Capizzi announced he as dropping his bankruptcy-related criminal investigation of Merrill Lynch & Co. In return, the brokerage agreed to pay a $30-million settlement.

Capizzi wants about $3 million to cover his investigative costs, but the rest is scheduled to go into county coffers.

Should the county keep the money?

Should it be given to schools?

Or to any of the other public agencies that lost money in the $1.64-billion bankruptcy?
