City to Select Firm to Find Job Candidates
Moving to fill the vacant city manager’s post, City Council members are scheduled to meet Monday to select an executive search firm to recruit candidates for the position.
The position came open when Oxnard City Manager Tom Frutchey was fired nearly five months ago. Council members earlier this month voted to hire a search firm to recruit Frutchey’s replacement, although three city employees--Police Chief Harold Hurtt, Interim City Manager Prisilla Hernandez and Community Services Director Matt Winegar--have expressed interest in the post.
Local candidates will be considered, but they will have to go through the search firm selected by council members, said Lino Corona, city personnel manager. “This doesn’t exclude them at all,” Corona said.
Three search firms will give presentations at the meeting. They are Norman Roberts & Associates of Los Angeles, David M. Griffith & Associates of Sacramento and Hughes, Perry & Associates of Sea Ranch. The firm selected will be paid about $20,000 by the city, Corona said.
Councilman Dean Maulhardt, who prefers a local replacement, said council members will list the qualities they want in a new city manager at Monday’s meeting.
“I want somebody who is nontraditional,” Maulhardt said. “What I don’t want is someone who will bring back management hierarchies.”
The special meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. in City Council chambers, 305 W. 3rd St.
