Raise Golf Course Fees, Not Taxes

* This letter refers to your June 15 editorial, “Balance Must Be Struck on Taxes.”

Although I live in South Laguna, I am a property owner in San Clemente. When San Clemente decided they needed money to repair streets, they formed a street assessment district. My taxes increased 20% as a result of this decision.

If San Clemente is so hard pressed for money, why do they charge residents just $9 green fees to play one of the nicest municipal courses in Southern California?

The Times, a few days ago, printed an article about a proposed course in Mile Square [Regional] Park. They stated the course would bring in $2.1 million annually with green fees of $19 to $20. If the city is so desperate for money, why don’t they run the golf course in a business-like manner?
