Longtime Oxnard resident Marjorie Kathleen Yarrow died Friday after a long illness. She was 62.

Born Nov. 24, 1934, in Midland, N.C., Yarrow served in the Navy during the 1950s. She met her husband while a Navy hospital corpsman.

The couple moved to Ventura County in the 1960s and lived in Simi Valley before settling in Oxnard in 1971. Yarrow raised a daughter and two sons, juggling her responsibilities as a mother with numerous jobs.

She worked as a beautician, a butcher and eventually became a real estate agent. She earned her high school diploma while raising her children and graduated with an associate degree from Moorpark College.

Yarrow enjoyed giving tours of local homes, said her son, Allen Yarrow.

“She loved it, because she loved people,” he said. “She loved showing people they could fulfill the dream of their lives, especially young couples.”

In her later years, Yarrow worked as an executive secretary for medical supply manufacturer Gould Spectramed in Oxnard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Oxnard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to a hospice organization.
