Man Arrested at Car Garage Being Used as Dental Office

Huntington Park police Saturday arrested a man they said had been operating an illegal dentist’s office out of a crowded single-car garage.

Juan Castillo, 28, was arrested about 9 a.m. at the garage in the 5900 block of Fishburn Avenue after Huntington Park police officers responded to a radio call of someone operating an illegal dentist office, said Lt. Ken Rulon. The officers found dental equipment--drills, sink, chair--wedged into the garage alongside three all-terrain vehicles. Outside was a waiting area with plastic chairs, a table and magazines.

“He had all the different utensils needed,” Rulon said.

Castillo’s records show that he has been working out of the garage for about 18 months, Rulon said, and is not licensed to practice dentistry in the United States. He said that two or three other unlicensed dentists apparently also used the garage from time to time, and that the investigation into the case is continuing.

“We haven’t had one of these in a long time,” Rulon said.
