A Lone Voice Against Wright

In her interview with Cathie Wright about welfare reform, staff writer Nancy Hill-Holtzman asked Sen. Wright about criticism of her opposition to the Republican position on welfare. In her reply Wright stated “I have not received one phone call . . . to chastise me for what I did.”

I beg to differ with Wright’s statement (unless she considers me a nonperson) for I did call Wright’s office and later in the day she returned my call.

In both my call to her office and in my conversation with Wright, I expressed that I did not approve of her position of paying for nursing home care for legal or illegal immigrants. I stated that there are too many American citizens who have trouble paying for medical care. Limited tax funds should be directed to them and not to noncitizens.

While my lone opposition to her actions may not merit recognition by Wright, nonetheless I did voice them to her.
