Motorola, IBM Unveil PowerPC Chips

Motorola Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. introduced three PowerPC microprocessors--two new chips and a high-speed upgrade to an existing model, the companies said. The companies’ newly designed 750 and 740 chips will be sold at clock speeds as high as 266 MHz, and a faster 604e chip will run at clock speeds as high as 350 MHz. RISC-based PowerPC microprocessors are jointly developed by Apple, IBM and Motorola.
