Amgen Quarterly Profits Climb 12% to $200.5 Million

Amgen Inc. posted a $200.5-million profit in its second quarter, up 12% from $178.7 million in 1996.

For the three months ended July 30, the Thousand Oaks-based biotechnology company reported revenue of $620.5 million, up 9% from $571.4 million for the same period last year.

For the six months, Amgen posted a profit of $380.8 million, up 18% from $322.3 million last year. Sales rose 9% for the six months to $1.2 billion from $1.1 billion in 1996.
