The Valley Jewish Business Leaders Assn. will evaluate the economic vitality of the San Fernando Valley during a meeting Thursday called “Is the Valley Recovering Economically?”

Mel Wilson, president of the San Fernando Valley Assn. of Realtors, and Bonny Herman, president of the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn., will attend the breakfast meeting scheduled for 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott, 21850 Oxnard St. in Woodland Hills.

Herman said gauging economic activity in the Valley can be difficult because demographic information that is specific to the area is limited.

But she and Wilson agreed that there are signs of recovery from the recession and the Northridge earthquake Valleywide.

“The Valley is recovering,” Wilson said. “The real estate market is improving in all sectors, some faster than others, and the thing that seems to be causing it is the growth of the entertainment industry [in the area].

“We’re seeing signs of improvement in the retail market,” he added. “The confidence of the consumer is pretty strong for the people living and working in the San Fernando Valley.”
