David Hope Sr.; 41-Year County Resident

David Hope Sr., a county resident for 41 years, died Friday. He was 66.

Hope was born May 18, 1931, in Venice, Calif. He grew up in Los Angeles, where during high school he was active in the gun club, track and field and wrestling. After graduation, he served in the Navy and the Marines. In 1950, he earned degrees in history and education from Los Angeles State University.

When he was 25, Hope, who worked in the construction industry for 35 years, moved his family to Ventura County. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ventura and sang in the choir.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; sons David Jr. of Arizona, Andrew of Escalon, Calif., and Daniel of Oak View; daughter Ruth Hope of San Luis Obispo; sisters Margaret Abrahamson of San Juan Capistrano, Mary Volkart of Tustin and Ruby Brooks of Ventura; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, 426 S. Mills Road.

Arrangements are under the care of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
