A teenager’s right arm was sliced off below the elbow when he stuck it out a car window and it hit a street sign, police said Monday.

Nestor Hernandez Diaz, 18, a recent high school graduate, was riding in a car driven by a friend though Oakland Park on Sunday morning when he indicated he wanted to get out, the friend told police. The teen pointed out the window but hit an “End School Zone” sign that sheared off his right arm below the elbow.

The limb was found by rescuers 200 feet away. Surgeons at North Broward Medical Center hoped to reattach the arm, a hospital spokesman said Monday.
