A man was stabbed outside Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh after a baseball game Monday night between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Scott Huff, 28, of Herminie, was in critical condition at Allegheny General Hospital, and his alleged attacker was in police custody, homicide Detective Terry O’Leary said.

Emergency personnel worked on Huff, who was shirtless and on his back as fans streamed by. He and his attacker might have argued over tickets, O’Leary said. Police recovered a knife from beneath a nearby parked car.

James Geran, 39, of Pittsburgh, was jailed on charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

The stabbing occurred outside of Gate A as fans were leaving the stadium following the Braves’ 6-0 victory over the Pirates.

“Somebody trying to sell something came and knifed him right in his face,” an unidentified woman told KDKA-TV.

Orel Hershiser has been placed on the Cleveland Indians’ 15-day disabled list because of a lower back strain. The move is retroactive to July 29.

Hershiser (9-5) has a 4.96 earned-run average in 23 games and has given up 22 home runs in 141 innings. The 14-year veteran, who signed with the Indians as a free agent just before the 1995 season, has 76 strikeouts and 47 walks this season.

The Indians filled Hershiser’s spot on the roster by recalling left-hander Jason Jacome from triple-A Buffalo.
