Vigilante update--The team is coming off a 2-4 homestand, including losing two of three to Tri-City, the last-place team in the North Division. The Vigilantes signed Dion Beck, 33, a left-hander from Cal State Fullerton who last pitched professionally in 1991. He reached triple A in 1986 for the Phillies. Designated hitter Chris Briones is hitting .167, but has a run batted in for each of his 10 hits. Mission Viejo is 27-37 on the season.

Posse update--Tri-City has a league-low 16 home runs, but Manager Jamie Nelson (Bolsa Grande High) said he designed his team to concentrate on speed because of the large dimensions of its home field. “If you live and die by the home run,” Nelson said, “you die by it a lot more.” Tri-City has a league-leading 109 steals, including 18 by Ryan Seidel (Southern California College). Brett Grebe of Westminster is second in the league with nine saves.
