Re “Disney Family Acts to Keep Gehry on Project,” July 31:

I have been a subscriber and supporter of Los Angeles opera, symphony and theater for several years and have followed with interest the financial woes of the proposed Walt Disney Concert Hall. Based on the delays, I was hoping that the Frank Gehry design would be abandoned for a more traditional design.

While Gehry’s “unique, undulating design” may be considered by some to be an architectural masterpiece, I consider it a bad joke on the people of Los Angeles. Just close your eyes and imagine a building where Mickey Mouse might conduct a symphony or perform in an opera.

If the Disney family wants to honor Walt Disney with a building designed by Gehry, let them build it at Disneyland. The people of Los Angeles deserve a serious arena for opera and classical music.

If tinker bells Mayor Richard Riordan and Eli Broad continue to wave their magic wand over the design aspect of the Walt Disney Concert Hall project, Los Angeles will end up with a Dumbo concert hall, not a Gehry.
