Man Charged for Allegedly Impersonating Teacher
An Inglewood man who allegedly assumed the identity of a teacher for more than a decade has been charged with perjury, false impersonation and theft, a spokeswoman for the district attorney said Wednesday.
Willie Clifton Wright, a convicted forger who allegedly impersonated Robert Eugene Sullivan, an adult education teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, was charged Monday with five counts of perjury, two counts of false impersonation and one count of grand theft exceeding $150,000. Wright is free on $25,000 bail.
Police contend that Wright used a phony driver’s license and Social Security card with Sullivan’s name and numbers. Police said Wright built up a mountain of unpaid credit card debt.
If Wright is convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison. A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 14. He was caught when Sullivan was preparing to retire and officials with the state teacher’s retirement association noticed there were two accounts in Sullivan’s name.
