A fund-raiser to benefit the children of a 35-year-old officer diagnosed as having an inoperable brain tumor is scheduled next month, officials at the West Los Angeles community police station said Wednesday.

Sgt. Andy Voge, an 11-year veteran of the LAPD, is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for a brain tumor that doctors discovered in June, said Lt. Jim Markloff.

Voge has a 2-year-old son, Markloff said, and his wife is seven months pregnant with another son.

A picnic will be held Sept. 10 at Rancho Park and proceeds will go to a trust for the children.

“He’s just an outstanding guy, a hard worker and dedicated to the community,” Markloff said. “We are trying in every way possible to help out.”

Markloff said those wishing to contribute to the trust fund should call the West L.A. station at (310) 575-8401.
