Professionals Sought for Foreign Exchange

Local Rotarians are seeking area professionals to participate in an international exchange program designed to promote better understanding between Americans and their foreign counterparts.

Rotarians in District 5260--which includes the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Antelope and Owens valleys--have openings for four participants in the four-week Group Study Exchange Program sponsored by the Rotary Foundation.

Group members will travel to Bangalore, India, on Jan. 5, and stay with host families living in the thriving commercial and farming center near the country’s southern end, said John D. Alexander, program coordinator.

“[Participants] can see how other countries do business,” Alexander said. “They can impart their knowledge and pick up knowledge from the people there and bring it back home to their business.”

To be eligible for the program, Alexander said candidates must be at least 25 and employed in a business or profession for at least two years. All travel, lodging and food expenses will be paid by the Rotary Foundation.

Local Rotarians will host a group from India in May, Alexander said.

About 27,000 people from 100 countries have traveled abroad since the program began in 1965, Alexander said.
