The annual Perseid meteor shower, the year’s best and a popular one to view, will occur this weekend through about Aug. 15, with peak activity in the early morning hours of Aug. 12. Observers in a dark location may see up to 60 meters an hour during the peak period and fewer on nights before and after. The Perseids--radiation from the direction of the constellation Perseus, but visible throughout the sky--have been very active since 1992 when the parent comet, Swift/Tuttle, passed close by the sun.
