It appears Cincinnati left-hander Pete Schourek may soon be back on the disabled list.

Schourek had surgery to tighten a ligament and clean out the elbow last year, has been on the disabled list once this season because of tendinitis and had a cortisone injection over the weekend that didn’t help much. It still hurt to throw.

He has been advised to rest a few more days and then may have to decide between another operation or going back on the disabled list for an extended rest, effectively wiping out the rest of his season.

He said he will try to throw over the weekend and decide what to do after that, adding, “I’ll try again in a few days and hope for a miracle.”

The Colorado Rockies acquired minor league catcher Creighton Gubanich from Milwaukee to complete an April 23 trade that sent infielder Jeff Huson to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gubanich, 25, was assigned to triple-A Colorado Springs to fill a roster spot vacated by injured catcher Jayhawk Owens.

Gubanich opened the season with Oakland’s triple-A affiliate in Edmonton and later joined Milwaukee’s farm club in Tucson. He is hitting .335 with 12 homers and 51 RBIs.

The Brewers needed an infielder because of early season injuries to shortstop Jose Valentin and second baseman Fernando Vina. Huson is hitting .227 with eight RBIs.
