Britain’s Princess Diana met two boys from opposite sides of Bosnia’s ethnic divide Saturday to hear how they lost their legs in land mine accidents.

The princess, visiting Bosnia as part of her crusade against mines, spoke to a Serb and a Muslim who were wounded on different sides of the former front line.

“I went to the woods to play, and when I was playing I found an antitank mine. I started playing with it, and it exploded,” Zdravko Beric, 12, a Serb, told reporters.

The princess also spoke to Malik Bradoric, 14. The Muslim boy was injured by a land mine as he helped his father collect food.

The two boys giggled and walked arm in arm as they waited for the princess to arrive, apparently immune to the nationalist hatred that helped fuel the war.
