Vigilantes Again Blow Lead, Then Lose, 11-8

The Vigilantes blew their second big lead in as many games and lost to host Grays Harbor, 11-8, in a Western League game Sunday in Hoquiam, Wash.

The Vigilantes (11-14) scored three runs in the fourth inning to open a 7-1 lead, but Grays Harbor (15-10) got one in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth to take an 11-7 lead.

In Saturday’s game, Mission Viejo led, 8-0, but Grays Harbor scored nine times in the sixth and went on to a 10-9 victory.

In Sunday’s game, Aaron Magdaleno relieved starter Scott Singleton to start the sixth and allowed five runs to take the loss.

Magdaleno (2-2) gave up a three-run homer to Mike Regina that broke a 7-7 tie. It was the second home run of the game and the 21st of the season for Regina, who drove in four.

Josh Gingrich replaced Magdaleno and gave up a homer to Mark Kingston and Grays Harbor went ahead, 11-8.

The Vigilantes’ Mike Cowell and Pat O’Conner had one-out singles in the ninth, but Brian Martineau struck out Willie Mosher and got Bret Barberie to ground out to end the game.

It was the ninth save for Martineau, who played at Rancho Santiago College.

Carl Nichols had two hits, including his sixth homer, and drove in three runs. Willie Mosher had four hits, including his fifth homer, and drove in two for Mission Viejo, which had 15 hits.
