Marino Sharp in Miami Win

Dan Marino appeared ready for the regular season, while backup Craig Erickson rallied the Miami Dolphins to a 21-14 exhibition victory over the Chicago Bears in Miami.

Marino, in one half of play, completed 12 of 15 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown.

Erickson went into the game with the Dolphins (2-1) behind, 14-7, and led two third-quarter touchdown drives. He completed eight of 11 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown, and now has directed five scoring drives in exhibition play.

Quarterback Rick Mirer, acquired from Seattle in the off-season to be the starter for the Bears (1-2), shook off a first-possession interception to lead an 80-yard scoring drive. He completed nine of 12 passes for 69 yards and one touchdown in his best exhibition performance.

Erik Kramer, the Bear starting quarterback last season before suffering a serious neck injury, completed eight of 12 passes for 70 yards.

Bear running back Rashaan Salaam had 58 yards in 10 carries to outgain the Dolphins by himself. Miami had 56 yards rushing.

Kordell Stewart, already designated as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ opening-day quarterback, starts his first home exhibition tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles.
