Vigilante update--Mission Viejo, which is three games out of first place in the Southern Division, starts a nine-game homestand on a sour note, having lost eight of the last 12. The team released relief pitcher Aaron Magdaleno (2-2, 7.96 earned-run average) and outfielder Mat Reese, who was hitting .167 in seven games. Mike Smith, who was the league’s most recent pitcher of the week, is 8-4 with a 3.00 ERA. Sam Taylor leads in home runs with 18 and Alan Burke, who has 16 homers, is tops in runs batted in with 68. Mission Viejo is 29-41 overall.

Chukar update--Reno has the best record, despite having the worst ERA (5.97) in the eight-team league. Reno is hitting .333, tops in the league. Catcher Todd Takayoshi and third baseman Andy Tarpley are tied for the league lead in batting at .422. Reno, which won the first-half title in the Northern Division, has a two-game lead over Grays Harbor with 20 games left.
