Rockwell International Corp. has set the date.

Sept. 2 marks the move of the company’s corporate headquarters from Seal Beach--where it was located when it still was deeply enmeshed in the aerospace and defense business--to a gleaming office tower in Costa Mesa more fitting to its new role as a commercial electronics giant.

The lease was announced months ago, but Rockwell only now has set the move-in date.

Meanwhile, Rockwell held a news conference in Detroit this week to announce that its automotive division, to be spun off as a separate, publicly traded company next month, will be named Meritor Automotive Inc.

The $3.1-billion international truck and auto parts maker will be headquartered in Troy, Mich. It is the last of the old manufacturing operations being shed by Rockwell.
