Explaining the Process

I need not argue over the point of view that was expressed about my artwork by your critic William Wilson (“Li Zi Jian at the Crossroads of Realism and Sentimentality,” July 24). I believe the actual outcome of my art exhibit will provide strong answers to many of his points of view.

But the review listed many important statistics which, due to their false nature, severely mislabeled the creation process of my art work. Moreover, the author based the statistics on incorrect information and stated that “he needs to stop painting like a machine.”

This has given a false view of all my art work over the last 10 years. It has caused major harm to my reputation. Wilson stated, “In an astonishingly brief 18 months, Li produced about 100 fully resolved paintings, from which this show was selected.” However, the fact is, the exhibit’s 92 paintings were chosen out of all the creations that I’ve painted over the past 15 years. There is a label on every painting to illustrate the year and the month in which the work was done. The article also stated that “the artist set up a foundation backed by his benefactor to fund a global tour of the work.” This point is also far from the truth. The entire funding for my exhibit’s world tour came from my many years of saving from selling my paintings. I have not received any sponsorship of any kind.
