Ducks May Be Happy, but Fans Not So Sure

Three facts scare me after reading your stories on Pierre Page:

First, he holds a lifetime losing record, having posted only one winning season in his seven years of NHL coaching. Second, General Manager Jack Ferreira, who has proven to be a complete imbecile, says he and Page “think alike.” And, last, Page disrupted the Nordiques’ morale by publicly scolding star Mats Sundin. I can just imagine Page yelling at Paul Kariya or Teemu Selanne, causing the Mighty Ducks to fall apart, or worse, causing one of those two invaluable players to demand to be traded.

The Ducks would have been better off hiring Don Hay or Butch Goring, both proven winners, or even persuading aging Jari Kurri, a natural to guide Selanne, to take the helm.

Better yet, Disney should have secured the job of Ron Wilson and fired Ferreira. The idea of Ferreira releasing quality talent in favor of signing longtime friends reminds me of the Kings during the Wayne Gretzky years.

The euphoria over the Ducks’ finally signing a new coach a month before camp opens will not last long. I give it two seasons before management at Disney Sports makes one of its infamous moves, proving once again that this coach will be just another unfortunate Page in the annals of local sports team management.

Hey, Kings’ fans, I know from reliable sources the reason the Kings passed on Mark Messier and Joe Sakic. In the dark regions of Chernobyl, our scouts have located their impact player. He skates faster than a speeding bullet, is able to leap to the Forum rafters in a single bound. It’s Igor the radioactive 10-foot mutant who plays for the Chernobyl Cossacks. The best part is he’s only 14 and still growing.
