Council Will Consider Roller Hockey Plan

Tennis courts at Marco F. Forster Middle School may be turned into roller hockey courts under a proposal being considered tonight by the City Council.

The proposal comes in response to growing demand for roller hockey courts in the city, recreation officials said.

More than 200 children participate in the city’s roller hockey program at the Camino Capistrano roller hockey court. Because the court site is limited, the program has no room to expand, said Al King, community services director.

In an effort to expand roller hockey programs, the council is being asked to approve a study that would examine the possibility of converting the rarely used tennis courts at Marco Forster for the skaters.

The study would be done in cooperation with Capistrano Unified School District, which maintains athletic facilities at the school under a joint use agreement with the city.

The joint study would examine the potential environmental, economic, financial, site and land use effects of the proposal.

If the plan moves forward, public workshops would be held to gather community opinion.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto. Information: (714) 493-1171.
