2 Decomposed Bodies Are Found in Glendale Home

Nearly 24 hours after two bodies were found inside a Raymond Avenue home, Glendale police were unable to identify the victims.

Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Kuh said late Saturday that the bodies, believed to be those of a male and a female, were found Friday night in the 300 block in an “advanced state of body decomposition,” making identification difficult.

Kuh said police did not suspect foul play, but added that no further information was available on the cause of death.

Neighbors said the occupants of the two-bedroom house were Bertha Chevlowe, in her 80s, and her son Louis, in his 60s.

They had lived there for more than 40 years, according to a next-door neighbor who did not want to be named.

The neighbors said they had not seen the Chevlowes for several days.

The owner of a nearby automotive store, Bob Sankey, said he used to greet the mother and son almost daily as he walked past the house. He said the mother had been bedridden for years, and the son had recently lost his ability to drive.

Sankey said he had not seen the mother for several months, but had encountered Louis Chevlowe in the neighborhood.

“He was doing his grocery shopping at the corner store,” Sankey said. “He was not eating well.”

The next-door neighbor said: “We didn’t know much about them. They kept to themselves.

The son was handicapped and could not walk or talk well. His speech was stuttering.”

Officials said they would release more information Tuesday.
