‘Aladdin’ returns home to Disney, which offers ABC a ‘Recess’; NBC kicks off ‘City Kids,’ ‘Hang Time’

Disney’s new animated series Recess (Sunday at 7:30 p.m.), about a group of kids at elementary school, has a special prime-time premiere on ABC. When “The New Kid,” timid Gus, transfers to Third Street School, T.J. and the fourth-grade gang quickly befriend him and introduce him to the playground. In a second segment, entitled “The Break In,” T.J. is caught when he sneaks into the cafeteria’s refrigerator to find some good food. The program will be shown again in its regular time slot Saturday at 7:30 a.m. For ages 6 to 12.

Based on the animated film, the Aladdin TV series moves from CBS and syndication to the Disney Channel (weekdays at 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.). Flying the magic carpet to more adventure are Aladdin (voice of Scott Weinger), his fiance Jasmine (Linda Larkin), the Genie (Dan Castellanetta) and the parrot Iago (Gilbert Gottfried). For ages 5 to 10.

In the season premiere of Ultimate Goosebumps (Fox, Saturday at 9 a.m.), Erin Wright and her best friend, Marty, love the horror movies and monsters that Erin’s dad creates. But when they are invited to experience a new shock ride on the studio tour, the monsters are scarier than they imagined. For ages 7 to 13.

Jamal (Wesley Jonathan), a street-smart African American from Harlem, and Chris (Scott Whyte), a fast-talking Anglo kid from Park Avenue, are new students at Manhattan High in the premiere of City Kids (NBC, Saturday at 8:30 a.m.). The two have been kicked out of their former schools and take an immediate dislike to each other. But the principal forces them to work together and they find they have a great deal in common. For ages 12-16.

In the season premiere of Hang Time (NBC, Saturday at 9:30 a.m.), Julie (Daniella Deutscher) considers quitting the basketball team when a new transfer student, Michael Manning (Adam Frost), is named captain instead of her. For ages 10 to 16.
