Lauren Fleshman

SCHOOL: Canyon

SPORT: Cross-country

YEAR: Junior

SEASON AT A GLANCE: Fleshman established herself as one of the top cross-country runners in the state by finishing third in the individual sweepstakes race of the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational in October and placing second in the Division I races of the Southern Section finals Nov. 22 and the state championships Saturday.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Fleshman finished second in the state Division I final with a time of 17:54 over the 5,000-meter course at Woodward Park in Fresno. It was 24 seconds faster than her previous best at Woodward Park and was the second-fastest of the meet behind the 17:46 clocking of Division I champion Trina Cox of Santa Rosa. It also gave Fleshman her first cross-country victory over Yucaipa’s Kimi Welsh, who placed third after winning the Southern Section title. “I was shooting for the top three,” Fleshman said. “I didn’t worry about times because I knew that would depend on the conditions.”
