With the holiday gift buying season officially upon us, I like to get those special hard-to-find-at-reduced-prices gifts out of the way. With a few sports enthusiasts on my list, a trip to Marcia’s is in order . . . but only on Wednesdays.
Marcia’s is a leading manufacturer of upscale golf and tennis apparel for women, and when the shop is open to the public on Wednesdays, the last season’s inventory is offered at sometimes better than wholesale prices.
Jackets made of micro-fiber, the new polyester that feels like suede, doesn’t wrinkle and fits perfectly into a busy life, come in several colors. In most pro shops and specialty stores, these jackets retail for $170, but you can save big here, where they are tagged at $90.
Tennis skirts run around $34 (retail $60-$65) and some well-made T-shirts for $21 actually wholesale for $30, which means the retail price is approximately $60. A few of these hiding in gift tissue would please any discerning recipient.
Sizes run from extra small to XX or 4 to 20, and the inventory is offered to the public 18 months from the release date. Check the sales rack first, where markdowns are often way below wholesale.

Weekend Super Sale: Smart shoppers will be saddened to learn that one of the few sources for fine menswear at affordable prices is hanging up the towel after 25 years. Starting today, the complete inventory at Roseman’s Menswear is priced up to 82% off retail. Men’s suits tagged at $99.99 retail for $295 to $400. Sport coats that are $200 and up at some stores will be offered starting at $69.99. Dress shirts for $14.99 (retail $25-$40) and silk ties that can go up to $50 at many shops are going for $14.99.
