UPCOMING PREP EVENTS IN ORANGE COUNTY : GIRLS’ TENNIS

Seven county players will vie for the Southern Section individual singles title beginning today at the Irvine Racquet Club. The favorite and probable top-seeded player is North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake’s Marissa Irvin, who won the U.S. junior doubles title this year and has signed with Stanford. Irvin, a member of the U.S. national team, has not played high school tennis until this year. She did not lose a set when playing in half of her team’s matches. The round of 16 and quarterfinals in singles and doubles will be played today, beginning at 11:45 a.m., and the semifinals and finals are scheduled for Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
