Storms May Disrupt Local Holiday Events
Storms bearing down on Ventura County this weekend may force cancellation of some holiday events, organizers say.
Over the next two days, Ventura County will be hit by two weak cold fronts expected to dump up to 3 inches of rain in the foothills and 1 inch along the coast.
The first will probably hit Friday afternoon. The second, and strongest, is expected to hit Saturday.
Temperatures will be unseasonably low, with highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 40s.
Camarillo’s 13th annual Holiday Lighting and the Camarillo Hospice’s Tree of Life program, scheduled to begin at 6:10 tonight at Constitution Park, will be canceled if the storm hits, organizers said.
Information about the status of the event, which is to include music and an appearance by Santa, is available by calling the city’s information line after noon at 484-8388 and then dialing 990.
In Ventura, the Holiday Street Festival on Sunday also will be canceled if it rains heavily. But if the forecast is for periodic light rain, the event will proceed as planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Ventura with food booths, entertainment and more than 500 artisans selling handmade crafts.
The Holiday Street Festival staff will decide early Sunday and leave recorded messages at 654-7830 or 654-7831.
The Ventura Holiday ArtWalk, however, will proceed no matter how bad the weather. The ArtWalk, scheduled today from 5 to 9 p.m., will feature art exhibitions and musical performances in downtown Ventura and up the Avenue.
