Kathy Acker; Wrote Novels About Sex and Violence

Kathy Acker, 53, author and artist whose 10 novels revolved around sex and violence. Among her works were “Blood and Guts in High School,” “Literal Madness,” “My Mother: Demonology” and “Pussy, King of the Pirates.” She also collaborated with composer Peter Gordon on an opera libretto, “Birth of a Poet,” which was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1985 and wrote a screenplay, “Variety,” filmed the same year. A fixture in New York’s Greenwich Village for many years, Acker was also a performance artist, appearing in clubs in Britain and America. She once supported herself as a stripper while she published her own books and peddled them to bookstores. In recent years, Acker lived in San Francisco. On Sunday in Tijuana of breast cancer.
