Port Hueneme has a new mayor and a new police chief.
First-term Councilman Jon Sharkey was unanimously elected mayor and Steve Campbell sworn in as police chief at Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
Sharkey replaces Tony Volante in the largely ceremonial post that rotates among council members on an annual basis. Councilwoman Toni Young was elected mayor pro tem.
Campbell, a 25-year veteran of the Glendale Police Department, will take over from Chief John Hopkins at the helm of the 21-officer department by year’s end. Hopkins will retire after a 31-year career with the department.
