San Jose Archbishop Mitty (28-2) vs. Marina (21-2)
7:30 TONIGHT CYPRESS COLLEGE
Archbishop Mitty, a seven-time Central Coast Section champion, returns to the state final after winning three consecutive titles from 1993-95. The Monarchs are big: Their shortest top players are setters Katie McMains (5-11) and Kelli Walsh (5-9), and they are talented. Tobbagi (Oregon), Robertson (San Diego), Mount (Texas A&M;) and Joanne Saunders (Fairfield) all have accepted volleyball scholarships. Marina is used to its underdog role, beating the Nos. 1, 3 and 4 seeded teams--all on the road--to get to the Division I final. So don’t expect the Vikings to be intimidated in their first state title match.
