Wilson Makes Difference for Royal
Dan Wilson scored on a header off a throw-in by Robert O’Rell in the 12th minute of play and the Royal High boys’ soccer team defeated Crescenta Valley, 1-0, in a rain-shortened first-round match of the Burroughs tournament on Friday.
The Highlanders (1-0), defending Southern Section Division I champions, have won a school-record 17 consecutive matches.
Burroughs 6, Harvard-Westlake 4--Matt Thayer scored two goals for Harvard-Westlake (2-1) in the the Burroughs tournament.
Granada Hills 1, Chatsworth 1--Muder Josip of Granada Hills scored in the 43rd minute after Abdulla Sufdari of Chatsworth (2-0-2, 0-0-2) converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.
GIRLS
Chaminade 4, Burbank 0--Carlie Stokes scored the first goal for the Eagles (4-0) in the first minute of a game halted because of rain after a 25-minute first half in the El Segundo tournament.
Hart 1, La Palma Kennedy 0--Dee Dee Sanguinetti scored on an assist from Erin Misaki in the 60th minute of a pool-play game of the El Modena tournament.
Verdugo Hills 1, Franklin 0--Kristin Cook scored for the Dons (2-0, 2-0) in a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.
