Blasts on 3 Trains Kill 11, Injure 54
Bombs tore through three trains in the southern part of the country, killing 11 people and injuring 54 others. One blast killed a child and two women and injured six in the state of Tamil Nadu, almost 2,000 miles south of the capital, New Delhi. Simultaneously, an explosion aboard the Cheran Express killed four people and injured eight others about 75 miles to the northwest. In the neighboring state of Kerala, another bomb killed four and injured 40. Police suspected the devices were planted by Muslim militants marking the fifth anniversary of the demolition of a mosque in northern India by Hindu fundamentalists.
