Gene Keady became Purdue’s winningest coach in sixth-ranked Purdue’s 87-69 victory over Louisville on Saturday.

Keady improved his record to 372-162 in 18 seasons at Purdue, passing Ward Lambert.

“It’s great to have it because the guy was a legend,” Keady said of Lambert. “Coach [John] Wooden said so much of him because he respected him so much.”

Wooden played three seasons under Lambert, who had a 371-152 record with 11 Big Ten championships from 1917-1946.

Former DePaul coach Joey Meyer was courtside as a Northwestern commentator during the Blue Demons’ 72-59 loss to the Wildcats at Evanston, Ill.

Meyer, who resigned under pressure following a 3-23 season, was replaced by former Florida State Coach Pat Kennedy.

It’s the first time since 1942 that a member of the Meyer family hasn’t been the DePaul coach. Joey coached 13 seasons while his dad, Ray, had a 42-year run at the school before retiring in 1984.

“Seeing the [DePaul] players when they first came out and at the beginning of the game was very difficult,” Meyer admitted after the game. “I recruited a lot of those players and part of me is in those young people. . . . .It’s behind me now. DePaul’s moving on and I’m moving on.”

“I have a lot of good friends here,” Durham said. “I came here at 17 and left when I was 40.”

Durham went to Georgia from Florida and led the Bulldogs to the Final Four in 1983--making him one of 10 coaches have two teams go that far in the tournament. He’s in his first season at Jacksonville.
