Sharing a true gift with Elmo; Dr. Seuss has his day; visits to North Pole are all the rage now

In Sesame Street Kids’ Guide to Life--Learning to Share (KCET, Sunday at 7 a.m.), Elmo has trouble taking turns and sharing his toys. But with the help of guest Katie Couric and some of the regular “Sesame Street” gang, including Big Bird and Cookie Monster, Elmo discovers that sharing can be fun. For ages 2 to 5.

Beginning with “The Butter Battle Book” and ending with “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” Dr. Seuss gets his own day of specials (Cartoon Network, Sunday at 7 a.m.). The first program looks at the ongoing battle between the Zooks and the Yooks over the correct way to butter bread, while the last is the famous tale of the mean old Grinch trying to ruin Christmas for the people of Whoville by stealing their presents. For ages 5 to 8.

The live-action version of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” turns up on “The Wonderful World of Disney” (ABC, Sunday at 7 p.m.), filled with giant snakes, quicksand and other dangers. It’s a charming adaptation of the story of a jungle boy and his animal companions who are threatened by the civilized world. Jason Scott Lee stars as Mowgli, whose sweetheart is kidnapped by villains trying to get him to lead them to a treasure. For the family.

Shaina (Tristin Mays), who has a cold, falls asleep on Gullah Gullah Island (Nickelodeon, Friday at 8:30 a.m.) and dreams about taking a trip to the North Pole to visit Santa Claus. There she discovers that the reindeer are suffering from colds too and she must deliver Santa’s packages to save Christmas. For ages 4 to 8.

Ed Asner and Betty White are the lead voices in the animated holiday special The Story of Santa Claus (CBS, Friday at 9 p.m.), in which a toymaker’s dream to deliver a toy to every child on Christmas comes true. For the family.

Young blues sensation Jonny Lang stars in his first television special, Jonny Lang in Concert, from Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. (Disney, Saturday at 7 p.m.). The program features behind-the-scene footage of the 16-year-old Lang and interviews with family members and others who inspired him. For the family.
