SCC Soccer Players Are Honored
Meggen Fleener and Katie Kelley, teammates on the Southern California College women’s soccer team, were awarded honorable-mention honors Friday by the NAIA All-American selection committee.
Fleener, a senior midfielder from Newport Harbor, finished her college career as SCC’s all-time assists leader with 27. Kelley is a junior defender from Bothell, Wash. Both earlier received All-Golden State Athletic Conference and All-Far West Region honors.
Azusa Pacific junior defender Nicole Restivo, from Laguna Hills, also received NAIA honorable-mention honors.
For the men, Donald Laing, a junior forward from Kingston, Jamaica, who plays for Pacific Christian, received honorable-mention honors as did Mission Viejo’s Mark Keler, a junior goalkeeper for Point Loma Nazarene.

Cross-country runners Heather McGlone, Caren Anderson and Steve Sherman were named NAIA All-American Scholar-Athletes.
McGlone, from Laguna Hills High, is a senior at Azusa Pacific with a 3.69 grade-point average. Anderson, from Mission Viejo High, is a senior at SCC with a 3.86 GPA, and Sherman, from Woodbridge High, is a junior at Biola with a 4.0 GPA.

Matt Davenport, who didn’t miss on 29 PAT attempts and connected on 13 of 21 field goals in helping Saddleback College to its undefeated season last year, is one of 20 finalists for the 1997 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-kicker Award, the NCAA recently announced.
Davenport, who graduated from Capistrano Valley Christian High in 1995, currently kicks for Wisconsin. The winner of the Lou Groza Award will be announced Dec. 9.
